What is Female Genital Fistula?

Fistula Signs and Symptoms
A woman who has obstetric fistula continuously leaks urine and/or fecal matter through the birth canal. Symptoms often start following a difficult childbirth. She wets or soils herself frequently and has a strong odor associated with the constant leaking.
Fistula is Widespread and Stigmatizing
Approximately one million women in the world are living with fistula. it is estimated that 3,000 new cases appear in kenya each year. Most women with fistula are stigmatized and isolated from their friends and families. As a result of fistula, women can develop other medical conditions such as foot drop, kidney issues, psychological trauma and depression.
